Wilhelm Jörn

Wilhelm Jörn (born January 14, 1873 in Klein-Rhüden , Harz , † April 27, 1963 in Lübeck ) was a German Methodist clergyman and writer.

Life

Wilhelm Jörn was the son of a carpenter . After attending primary school, Wilhelm Jörn learned the carpentry trade . He went to Hanover , where he had first formative contacts with the Evangelical Community . He then attended the building trade school in Holzminden . After he had done his military service from 1893 to 1895 , he prepared from 1896 with internships in Mülheim an der Ruhr and in Bromberg for training as a preacher . Jörn completed the seminary in Reutlingen from 1898 to 1900 and was ordained an elder in 1902 . Between 1900 and 1903 he worked as a clergyman in Düsseldorf and Cologne and from 1903 in Berlin , where he married the pastor's daughter Martha Schaarschmidt in 1904. The marriage resulted in nine children. In 1910 Jörn went to Königsberg i. Pr. , Where he also preached as a medic in World War I.

During the 1920s Jörn worked as the youth secretary of the Evangelical Community (Methodism) in Northern Germany. He took part in conferences of the German Evangelical Alliance and was active in the World Federation Committee . From 1930 he looked after a community in Berlin . He retired in 1934 . Then he worked in Pomerania . After the death of his wife in 1939, he married Gertrud Schernitzki a second time . In the Battle of East Pomerania , he fled to West Germany in March 1945 . Most recently he was based in Lübeck .

Wilhelm Jörn left an extensive literary work behind. In addition to numerous theological treatises and biographies he wrote stories for young people, poems and dramatic works for chanting .
