Wilhelm Schöttler

Wilhelm Schöttler (full name: Friedrich Wilhelm Schöttler ; born April 8, 1829 in Osterode am Harz , † June 20, 1895 in Braunschweig ) was a German engineer , entrepreneur and mechanical engineer , landowner and councilor and politician .

Entrepreneurial activity

Friedrich Wilhelm Schöttler was the son of the innkeeper, engineer, mill builder and count's mechanical engineering inspector Lorenz Schöttler . After attending secondary school in Aschersleben , he completed a practical apprenticeship at the Ilsenburg ironworks and the Count's Stolberg machine factory in Magdeburg .

Together with his father, he founded the iron foundry and mechanical engineering company Schöttler & Co. in Sudenburg in 1846. Friedrich Wilhelm Schöttler took over the management. In 1846 he constructed a steam engine for use in his own factory and produced the technical equipment for sugar factories. In 1847 he built a balancing steam engine for a spirits distillery. A year later he founded a sugar factory in Donnersleben . In 1856 Schöttler sold the company in Sudenburg and founded a steam mill in Magdeburg together with Wilhelm Adolf Drenckmann in 1857 . Drenckmann continued to operate this alone from 1870 onwards. In addition to his industrial activity, Schöttler acquired goods in Varmissen and Marzhausen .

In 1859 he became a partner in the machine factory Fr. Seele & Co. in Braunschweig, which was founded by his father and Friedrich Seele . Schöttler now also moved to Braunschweig and took over the technical management of the company. After the transformation into a stock corporation under the name Braunschweigische Maschinenbauanstalt , Schöttler became one of the executive directors. As an engineer, he was particularly responsible for diffusion systems for the sugar industry. His development work has contributed significantly to the company's success in the market.

In addition to his professional activity, he was a liberal and later politically active as a member of the national liberal party . He was already a city councilor in Sudenburg. He was also in Braunschweig. There Schöttler was also a member of the magistrate from 1879 to 1891. While he lived as a landowner in Hesse, he was a member of the state parliament of Kurhessen from 1862 to 1864 . He was a member of the state parliament of the Duchy of Braunschweig from 1874 to 1876. In the second legislative period from 1874 to 1877 he was also a member of the German Reichstag . As a member of parliament, he represented the constituency of the Duchy of Braunschweig 1 (Braunschweig - Blankenburg).

Others

In 1872 he donated a lion monument in Helmstedt to commemorate the war of 1870/71 . In the 1880s he participated in the establishment of a building cooperative in Braunschweig.

Schöttler was honored with the title of Commerce Councilor . After his death he left a foundation with a capital of 20,000 marks to provide for former employees of the Braunschweigische Maschinenbauanstalt. A street in Braunschweig is named after Schöttler.
