Johann Georg Wilhelm von Walther and Cronegk (born December 6, 1739 in Koschine, Militsch district, † September 22, 1808 in Liegnitz ) was a Prussian major general .

Johann Georg Wilhelm was the son of Georg Adolf Wilhelm von Walther and Cronegk (born March 16, 1704 in Koschine, † 1768 in Breslau ) and his wife Johanna Gottliebe Amalie, née von Wildenstein.

Military career

From August 14, 1755, Walther and Cronegk visited the cadet institute in Berlin and on May 25, 1757 they were employed as second lieutenant in the "von Itzenplitz" infantry regiment of the Prussian army . With the regiment he took part in the battles near Roßbach , Leuthen , Liegnitz , Torgau , Hoyerswerda and Reichenbach as well as the sieges of Breslau , Neisse and Dresden during the Seven Years' War . After the Treaty of Hubertusburg , Walther and Cronegk became prime lieutenant on May 13, 1763 and nine years later staff captain . For his services he received the order Pour le Mérite on January 11, 1774 by King Friedrich II . In mid-March 1774 Walther and Cronegk were promoted to captain and at the same time appointed company commander. As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On May 21, 1783, he was promoted to major . In the further course of his military career, Walther and Cronegk took over the 1st Battalion on June 29, 1785 and finally moved up to the command of the 1/13 grenadier battalion on January 18, 1786. In this position, he was on 29 September 1790 to lieutenant colonel and on January 17, 1793 to Colonel promoted. On November 1, 1795, he was given command of the depot battalion of the Steinwehr infantry regiment .

Walther and Cronegk graduated as major general on October 1st, 1799 with an annual pension of 800 thalers .

He died unmarried.
