Willi Oelgardt
Willi Oelgardt (born October 31, 1912 , † December 12, 1973 ) was the first selection coach of the GDR national soccer team in official international matches.
Career
Willi Oelgardt played from 1933 to 1937 as a defender at SV Viktoria 96 Magdeburg in the Gauliga Mitte . In July 1938 he was appointed to two selection games in Gaus Mitte. After 1945 he continued his career with SG Magdeburg-Altstadt (from 1949 BSG Stadt Magdeburg Grün-Rot, from 1950 BSG Einheit Magdeburg), where he played in the state league of Saxony-Anhalt until 1951. As early as March 1950, he completed a coaching course at the DS of the GDR, soccer section .
At the BSG activist Brieske-Ost he took over the training management in the league round 1950/51 on November 1, 1950 until the end of the season. From May 1951 he was regional trainer in Brandenburg and helped out again from September 26 to October 20, 1951 at the Brieskern.
Oelgardt became the national team coach together with Alfred Kunze . In April 1951, two unofficial test matches were held against Poland , which ended in defeats. On May 18, 1952, another unofficial international match against Hungary followed , which the Hungarians won 5-0. After the football section of the GDR had received full FIFA membership on July 24, 1952 , the national team played their first official international match against Poland on September 21, 1952 in Warsaw. Alfred Kunze had retired weeks earlier as a lecturer at the DHfK in Leipzig, so that Oelgardt had sole responsibility.
The premiere was lost with 0: 3, whereupon a coaching council was formed in October 1952, to which Oelgardt belonged as chairman and national coach until February 8, 1953. On October 26, 1952, the second international match took place in Bucharest against Romania ; this was lost 1: 3. When, after a break of eight months, the GDR senior team took on their third international match against Bulgaria in Dresden on June 14, 1953, Fritz Gödicke replaced Oelgardt, who had fallen out of favor. It wasn't enough for the first win, the game ended goalless 0-0. Then Hans Siegert was the new national coach of the GDR.
From December 18, 1952, Oelgardt was in the GDR Oberliga with Motor Oberschöneweide trainer. At the end of the round, the "Wuhlheider" were relegated in 15th place due to their great weakness at home. From 1955, Willi Oelgardt continued his coaching career in West Berlin with the clubs Tennis Borussia , SC Minerva 93 , Blau-Weiß 90 and Berliner SV 92 .
