William F. Nolan
William Francis Nolan (born March 6, 1928 in Kansas City , Missouri ; died July 15, 2021 ) was an American writer of science fiction , fantasy, and horror and author of biographies and books on motorsport. He was best known for the Logan series, the first volume of which, Logan's Run, was the template for the film Escape into the 23rd Century .
Life
William attended the Kansas City Art Institute briefly, but moved to California with his family when he was 19. In 1952, in Los Angeles, he joined a group of writers who would become leaders in the science fiction and horror genres, including Ray Bradbury , Richard Matheson and Robert Bloch . From 1962 he also wrote screenplays for film and television. In 1961 he was seen alongside the two science fiction authors Charles Beaumont and George Clayton Johnson in Roger Corman's White Terror (The Intruder) as a supporting actor.
Nolan was married once; at his death he had no family. He died of complications from an infection in July 2021 at the age of 93.
