Willie Deane (born February 23, 1980 in Schenectady , New York State ) is an American basketball player . He currently plays in the position of point guard at Olimpia Milano in Italy .
Career
college
Deane played for two different colleges during his college years from 1998 to 2003. He was selected in 2003 for the Boilermakers of Purdue University in the first team of the five best players of the Big Ten Conference in the NCAA .
professional
After Deane was not selected in the 2003 NBA draft, he moved to Europe and played the first few years at various clubs in Greece, Turkey and Russia. His success began with the move to Akademik Sofia in Bulgaria in 2007. He was Bulgarian champion three times in a row and cup winner in 2009. In May 2010 he took on the Bulgarian citizenship alongside the American one.
For the 2010/11 season he moved to France to SLUC Nancy Basket and won the French championship with SLUC 2011. He then moved to the Ukraine and played first in Odessa and then, after an interim engagement at CB Estudiantes in Spain, for Chimik Yuschne . With Chimik he reached the quarterfinals of the EuroChallenge in 2013 . During the 2013/14 season Deane signed a contract with Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd in the VTB-UL . Here he was voted MVP of the month in March 2014. Another club change followed in May of the same year, with Olimpia Milano Deane won the Italian championship, where he himself came only for a short period. In the following season, Deane initially continued to play in Italy for the traditional club and former European Cup winner from Varese before returning to Krasny Oktyabr in Volgograd in February 2015 .
After the end of the season Deane left Volgograd again and for the 2015/16 season he played again in the French LNB Pro A for Saint-Thomas Basket from Le Havre . With this team, however, he had no particular success and so he separated from the bottom of the table in March 2016. At the end of the season he played for the Latvian runner-up from Ventspils , who, however, already failed in the play-off semi-final series against defending champions VEF Riga .
