Wischer is a district of the municipality of Hassel in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark village of Wischer is eight kilometers northeast of the district town of Stendal .

history

The first known documentary mention of the place dates back to the year 1345, as weschern , as Margrave Ludwig, whom the village of Wischerde grants from Alvensleben . In 1430, the village will be wiped earth called when Margrave John the of Woldeck belehnte with possessions in the town. Further mentions are 1435 wescherten , 1492 wiscerden and 1506 Wyscherde . Apparently the village was already deserted in 1435 and 1492, at the beginning of the 16th century it was still desolate .

A sheep farm was probably only established on the desert field in the 18th century. In 1804 there was the establishment of Wischer or Vischer on the desolate Feldmark Vischheyde . In the meantime, five farms were operated here. In 1905 the Vorwerk Wischer had 17 inhabitants, the Wischer colony only 7.

The development of today's village is largely due to the Jewish farmer Karl Riedel. From 1913 he ran a farm with an estate on 275 hectares. Riedel has drained areas, built roads, and raised sheep and pigs. In 1934 he was induced to sell the property to a settlement company, far below its value. He then emigrated to the USA via Switzerland. On September 4, 1935, the Stendal Cultural Office announced in the official gazette that pension assets would also be created from the Wischer estate. The settlement company sold the land on as ten individual farms at a much higher price. This laid the foundation for the place. In 1990 the sons of Riedels applied for repatriation under the law regulating open property issues . You have been compensated. At first, the residents of Wischer feared that they would lose their land again, which they had bought with a clear conscience. But that would not have been the point of the sons' request, as Charles Riedel made clear during his visit to Stendal.

Particularly after reunification, the original small village experienced a large influx.

Incorporations

In 1924 4 pieces of land with a total area of ​​0.416 hectares were separated from the Billberge estate and assigned to the Wischer district in the Bürs estate. Thereafter, the Wischer colony (residential area of ​​the rural community of Bürs colony) was merged with the Vorwerk Wischer (residential area of ​​the Bürs estate district).

On September 30, 1928, with the dissolution of the estate district of Bürs domain, the ancillary estate (Vorwerk) Wischer with an area of ​​267.9762 hectares was combined with the rural community of Hassel. With that, Wischer became a district of Hassel.

The Vorwerk Wischer of the former estate district of Bürs, which is united with the municipality of Hassel, was separated from the registry office district of Sanne with effect from January 1, 1929 and assigned to the registry office district of Hämerten.

• The cemetery in Wischer am Arnimer Weg is a communal cemetery of the municipality of Hassel.
• The natural monument Kieferngruppe Wischer is located at the southeast exit of the village.

Recreation and sport

The Waldseebad Wischer is used as a local recreation area, especially for the city of Stendal. There is a campsite next to it. The lake was created through the intensive mining of gravel for the construction industry in the area. On January 14, 2019, the Waldbad Wischer was the starting point of the 31st Altmarktriathlon.

Due to the proximity to the Elbe , the unspoilt landscape of the Altmark and, last but not least, the Waldsee, Wischer is worth a visit, especially for those who are looking for peace and quiet or who are active in sports (cycling, swimming, riding, hiking).
