Wladimir Wladimirowitsch Sedow (Владимир Владимирович Седов; born March 2, 1988 in Üschtöbe ) is a Kazakh weightlifter . He became world middle heavyweight champion in 2009 .

Career

Vladimir Sedov began lifting weights as a teenager in his hometown. He quickly developed into an outstanding athlete, especially since with a height of 1.73 meters he has good physical prerequisites for a lifter in the light or medium-heavy weight class.

He made his first start in an international championship in 2005 at the Junior World Championship in Busan . He achieved there in the middleweight duel 329 kg (153-176) and thus took 4th place. In the same year he also started at the Asian Junior Championship in Dubai , where he reached 326 kg (156-170) in the light heavyweight division. With this result he came back to 4th place.

The move to the middle heavyweight division in 2009 was an important step for him. He was no longer forced to shed a lot of pounds, which was particularly noticeable in his pushing performance, which was relatively weak. Already at the World Championships in Goyang / South Korea he started in this weight class and achieved an excellent 402 kg (185-217) in a duel, with which he was the clear winner before Nizami Paschajew from Azerbaijan , who returned after a two-year doping ban , who achieved 387 kg in a duel.

In 2010 Vladimir Sedov could not defend his title at the World Cup in Antalya. He came there in a duel on 390 kg (180-210), with which he finished only 6th place. But with his performance in the snatch of 180 kg he still won a bronze medal in the World Championships. In April 2011 he finished at the Asian Championships in Tongling / China in the middle heavyweight division with 387 kg (180–207), second behind the South Korean Kim Man-jae, who came to 388 kg. At the World Championships this year in Paris he was used by the Kazakh Weightlifting Association in the heavyweight division. With a body weight of 94.65 kg, he was of course much too light and only came in 13th place with his performance of 385 kg (180–205). The winner in this weight class was the Russian Chadschimurat Akkajew , who scored 430 kg in a duel.

In 2012, Vladimir Sedov could not qualify for the team of Kazakhstan for the Olympic Games in London. In the middle heavyweight division Ilya Ilyin and Almas Uteschow started for Kazakhstan. At the 2013 World Cup in Wrocław, Vladimir Sedov was back at the start and in better shape than in the previous three years. He achieved there in the middle heavyweight duel 396 kg (180-216), with which he won the bronze medal. He also won bronze medals in snatching and pushing.

Multiple doping offenses

At the 2006 Junior World Championships in Hangzhou , Vladimir Sedov climbed to 351 kg in a light heavyweight duel, but this performance was not enough to win a medal. He came in 5th place. In the same year he was banned until May 18, 2008 for a doping violation . As it became known in August 2016, Sedov did not discontinue the prohibited performance-enhancing agents even after this ban. As the International Weightlifting Association published, he sneaked a fourth place at the 2008 Olympic Games with the help of stanozolol .
