Podlaskie Voivodeship (1513–1795)
The Podlaskie Voivodeship (Polish województwo podlaskie ) was a voivodeship of the Polish-Lithuanian aristocratic republic from 1513 to 1795 in what is now Poland and Belarus .
Administrative division
The seat of the voivode and the castellan was Drohiczyn . Both were senators.
The Podlaskie Voivodeship is divided into three countries, each with its own regional assemblies ( Sejmik ):
- Land Drohiczyn ( ziemia drohicka ), capital Drohiczyn
- Country Mielnik ( ziemia mielnicka ), capital Mielnik
- Bielsk region ( ziemia bielska ), main town Bielsk , district court in Brańsk
history
On August 29, 1513, the Podlaskie and Brest Voivodeship in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was formed by Sigismund I from part of the Troki Voivodeship . Since 1516 it was under Polish law. In 1566 the Brest Voivodeship was separated . After the Union of Lublin it came to the Province of Lesser Poland in the Kingdom of Poland.
In 1795 the voivodeship was dissolved and most of the area was assigned to Prussia and a small part to Russia , and in 1807 the entire area came to Russia.
In 1790 there were 226,392 people in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
