Wolfgang Büsch (born September 24, 1929 in Breslau ; † April 17, 2012 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from the Hermann-Lietz-Schule at Schloss Bieberstein in 1949 , the son of a businessman studied law, history, German, political science and philosophy at the universities in Berlin , Mainz and Marburg . Büsch joined the SPD and was 1957/58 chairman of the Socialist German Student Union (SDS). He finished his studies in 1956 with the first state examination and in 1960 with the second state examination. He was then admitted to the bar and initially worked in this profession until 1967.

In 1958 he won a mandate for the SPD in the Berlin House of Representatives, which he held until 1971 ; From 1962 to 1967 he was the managing director of the SPD parliamentary group. From April 1967 he headed the Berlin interior department as a senator. At the same time as the events surrounding the killing of the student Benno Ohnesorg , the then governing mayor - Heinrich Albertz - was exposed to violent attacks and intrigues by the left and right wing of the SPD. In order to divert the pressure on him from himself, he persuaded his Senator for the Interior to take political responsibility for Ohnesorg's death in September 1967 and to resign from office. Albertz thanked him with the words: "Wolfgang, you are a hero." A week later Albertz also resigned.

After retiring from active politics, he worked as a lawyer and notary with his own law firm until 2001. He was also the managing director of the Association of Magazine Publishers in Berlin and Brandenburg (VZBB).
