Wolfgang Gülich

Wolfgang Gülich (* 1940 ) is a retired German Brigadier General . D., author and collector.

Gülich served in the army of the Bundeswehr with the pioneer troops. From 1971 to 1973 he took part in the 14th General Staff Course (H) at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Later, from 1982 to 1985, he was Chief of Staff of the 10th Panzer Division in Sigmaringen. In 1990 he became an employee of the liaison group of the Federal Ministry of Defense in the Ministry of Disarmament and Defense of the GDR. From 1991 to 1994 he was commander of the newly established Heimatschutzbrigade 37 in Dresden and in 1995 the renamed Panzergrenadierbrigade 37 in Frankenberg. During his time, soldiers who had been taken over by the National People's Army were integrated and the group of Soviet troops withdrew from Germany . He also came closer to the churches in East Germany .

Afterwards he became deputy commander of the military area command VII / 13th Panzer Grenadier Division in Leipzig. In 1998/99 he was National Commander of the second German SFOR contingent in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In 2000 it was ceremoniously adopted in the Saxon state parliament in Dresden. He was awarded the Saxon Constitutional Medal.

In 2002 he was appointed to the Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony as the first former military man .

He is the author of three volumes on the history of the Royal Saxon Army in the 19th (and 20th centuries), which were published in the series of writings of the Rudolf-Kötzschke-Gesellschaft published by Sax-Verlag . Michael Vollert praised his work from 2011 in the military history magazine . Accordingly, it is a “broad-based presentation” that has “closed a gap” and is not only of value for historians. A review, published in the journal Neues Archiv für Saxon History , praised his work in the Saxon main state archive in Dresden . His first volume (2nd edition 2008) was well received overall. In addition, Gülich u. a. in the magazine for Heereskunde .

In 2014 he donated an extensive collection of pewter figures to the Wolkenstein Military History Museum .

Gülich now lives in Leipzig .
