Wolfgang Müller (born October 6, 1931 in Landsberg an der Warthe , German Empire , † December 30, 2021 in Löbnitz ) was a German dressage rider and riding master .

Career

Müller was born in what is now the Polish town of Landsberg an der Warthe. By escaping in World War II , he came to what would later become the GDR. In Halle (Saale) he got a job as a stud caretaker at what was then the Halle-Kreuz state stud and went through his basic equestrian training here. In the early 1960s he joined the Army Sports Club (ASK) Vorwärts Berlin and was GDR dressage champion five times in a row. At this time he had the rank of sergeant major .

He then worked for the ASK Vorwärts Potsdam , his teachers included Werner Eggers and Willi Lorenz. During this time he also took part in the Olympic Games in 1968 and 1972 with Horst Köhler and Gerhard Brockmüller . In 1968 he was awarded the title of Master of Sport .

After the Olympic Games in 1972, the promotion of equestrian sport in the GDR was discontinued. Müller then moved to Löbnitz , where he devoted himself to the training of riders at LPG Plant Production Löbnitz, which was, among other things, a state-approved horse breeding company. His students included the sisters Ina Saalbach and Anke Saalbach .

He also rode actively for Tractor Löbnitz and was GDR champion several times in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also active in show jumping up to advanced level.

At the beginning of 1999 he was awarded the title of riding master .

Private

In the 1990s he married Ina Saalbach, who rode up to Grand Prix level. In Löbnitz he was involved in the local equestrian club and staged a dressage quadrille there with the participation of his wife.
