World Championships of the Olympic Equestrian Sports

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

World championships in the three equestrian disciplines that have been Olympic equestrian disciplines since 1912 ( dressage , show jumping and eventing ) have been held every four years since 1966.

Show jumping world championships have been held at irregular intervals since 1953. From 1990 to 2018, the World Equestrian Federation FEI merged all competitions into a joint world championship, the World Equestrian Games . Since then, partially separate events have been held for the individual disciplines, but with the same rhythm.

Show jumping

World Cup 1953

The first world show jumping championships were held in Paris , France , in 1953 . Two riders per nation were allowed to start here.

At this first men's world championship, a final with a horse change was held for the first time. Here, the riders in positions one to four in the individual ranking initially competed with their own horses, then they had to contest the identical course with the horses of their competitors. This mode existed until the World Equestrian Games in 2014, at the end of 2016 it was abolished despite the protest of the International Show Jumping Club.

World Championships 2022

After organizational problems at the last two World Equestrian Games and a lack of applicants due to clear financial problems of almost all organizers of the previous World Championships, the FEI decided to deviate from the concept of the World Equestrian Games. Multisport world championships in eight disciplines were no longer required of the possible organizers.

The contract for a joint world championship in show jumping, vaulting, dressage riding and para-dressage riding was awarded to the venue for the 2013 European Championships , Herning.

Dressage riding

World Cup 1966

The first world championships in dressage were held in 1966 in Bern , Switzerland . 24 riders from six nations competed in Berne, four teams competed.
