Wolfgang Philipp (theologian)

Wolfgang Franz-Heinrich Otto Philipp (born April 15, 1915 in Königsberg in Prussia ; † February 15, 1969 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German Protestant theologian . He is considered to be the founder of scientific Irenik .

Life

Philip had Scottish ancestors. He was born in 1915 as the son of a pedagogue and specialist psychologist and his wife, a teacher. From 1933 to 1938 he studied a. a. Philosophy , psychology and Protestant theology at the University of Königsberg . In 1939 he was with the dissertation Weibwerdung or matriarchy to Dr. phil. PhD. When Martin Noth he earned a licentiate . In 1943 he completed his habilitation with the work Dying and Resurrecting Gods .

After the theological exams in 1939 and 1943, he was drafted into military service. Most recently he served as a first lieutenant in the armored forces of the German Wehrmacht . He was wounded and remained in a hospital until 1947 .

From 1947 to 1951 he was pastor in various institutions in Marburg . In 1953 he received the license to teach ecclesiastical folklore. 1954 took place the Habilitation for Systematic Theology . In 1956 he was appointed adjunct professor and in 1964 full professor for Protestant theology at the University of Frankfurt am Main . In 1966 he founded the Institute for Scientific Irenik. He kicked u. a. as an interpreter of the theologian and religious philosopher Paul Tillich in appearance.
