Wolfgang Sieber (politician)

Wolfgang Sieber (born May 1, 1934 ; † April 6, 2017 ) was a German economic functionary and politician in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1973 to 1982 he was General Director of VEB Kombinat Robotron and 1989/90 Chairman of the Dresden District Council .

Life

After completing his studies , Sieber , who came from Görlitz , was the scientific director of a university computer center from 1961 to 1966 and was appointed professor of mathematics and descriptive geometry at the Leipzig University of Civil Engineering on February 1, 1966 . At the Berlin School of Economics , he received his doctorate in January 1969 with a thesis on the inclusion of small businesses in socialist rationalization. rer. oec. PhD .

He joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From November 1973 to September 1982 he was General Director of the Robotron combine in Dresden (successor to Siegfried Zugehör). Because he did not submit, he was fired on orders from Günter Mittag . He was initially unemployed, subjected to Stasi interrogations and house searches. Later he was employed as operations director of the VEB Kombinat Schaltelektronik Oppach and was also chairman of the commission “Complex planning of the development of the district” in the Löbau district assembly .

On December 14, 1989 Sieber was elected chairman of the Dresden District Council. He advocated administrative reform to restore the state of Saxony , pleaded for the dissolution of the SED and wanted to join the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). A motion of no confidence by the SED-PDS on February 1, 1990 was rejected by the district assembly. After a secret run-off election, Sieber was confirmed in office with a narrow majority of 53.4 percent of the votes. The next day he demanded the dissolution of the district assembly due to a lack of legitimation and constructive cooperation at the round table and finally resigned on February 6, 1990. On February 8, 1990, Michael Kunze was elected by the plenum of the district assembly as the new chairman of the district council.

After the reunification and peaceful revolution in the GDR, Sieber was President of the German Red Cross (DRK) in Görlitz for more than fifteen years . In March 2010, when he passed, he was made an honorary member of the DRK and was awarded the Henry Dunant Medal . Since 1996 he has been the owner of the Bremenhain manor , which he gradually renovated.

Sieber died almost six months after his wife Ingeborg at the age of 82. The urn burial in Görlitz took place in the Rauschwalde cemetery .
