Manfred Scheler

Manfred Scheler (born March 20, 1929 in Gablenz , Oberlausitz , † June 2, 2014 in Dresden ) was a German FDJ and SED functionary. He was chairman of the council of the Dresden district and a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

The son of a miner completed an apprenticeship as a machinist from 1944 to 1945 after attending elementary and middle school . From January to May 1945 he was drafted into the Volkssturm .

After the war he was a member of the Antifa youth and auxiliary policeman in his hometown. From 1945 to 1946 he worked as a locksmith in Weißwasser . In February 1946 he became a member of the SPD , in March 1946 the FDJ and in April 1946 the SED . He worked as an FDJ functionary in the Niesky district and in 1950 attended the SED state party school in Meissen . From January 1951 to August 1952 he was first secretary of the FDJ city administration in Dresden and at the same time from 1951 to 1959 a member of the central council of the FDJ . From September 1952 to August 1953 he was the second secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Dresden. In 1953/54 he studied at the Central Komsomol University in Moscow. He was then employed from September 1954 to February 1959 as first secretary of the FDJ district leadership in Dresden. From 1954 to 1982 he was a member of the Dresden District Assembly.

From March 1959 to February 1962 he was first secretary of the SED district leadership in Sebnitz and from February 1962 to February 1963 Secretary for Agriculture of the SED district leadership in Dresden. On June 10, 1963 he was elected chairman of the Dresden District Council. He held this office until his dismissal for “impartial behavior” on July 6, 1982. He had criticized and questioned key decisions relating to the planning of territorial development in the Dresden district. In 1990 he was rehabilitated by the Dresden District Assembly in connection with his replacement in 1982.

He completed his studies at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in 1970 with a degree in political science.

From September 1982 to 1990 he was the successor of Fritz Zeuner as deputy chairman and first secretary of the central board of the Association of Mutual Farmers Aid (VdgB). From 1983 to 1989 he was a member of the SED district leadership, central organs of the agriculture and food industry . From June 1986 to March 1990, as chairman of the VdgB parliamentary group, he was a member of the People's Chamber and a member of its presidium. From 1983 to 1990 he was also a member of the National Council of the National Front of the GDR.

From March 1990 to September 1990 he was the acting general manager of the "Farmers' Association of the GDR eV", resigned from this office at his own request, went into early retirement and in 1994 retired.

Scheler held a number of honorary functions. Since 1975 he was an honorary member of the Dynamo Dresden sports club , from 1990 to 1992 chairman and 1992 to 2005 deputy chairman of the association court of the Northeast German Football Association , from 1990 to 1992 member of the federal court of the German Football Association .
