Wolfgang Tilgner (born September 25, 1932 in Zobten ; † January 30, 2011 in Berlin ) was a German poet, lyricist of rock and hit texts and non-fiction author. He is best known through his years of collaboration with the Puhdys .

Life

Tilgner passed his Abitur in 1951 at the Thomasschule in Leipzig . After graduating from high school, he was supposed to become a teacher, but was very interested in theater and planned to work as a dramaturge. However, in 1956, after completing his studies, there was no corresponding vacancy. So he went to Oranienburg with his wife at the time to work as a teacher there.

From 1962 to 1982 he was dramaturge at the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin , where he met his future wife, Hanna-Maria Fischer , who was then working there as a dancer. Tilgner wrote poetry. A small collection of his works was published in 1969 in the Poesiealbum series , a separate volume of poetry published in 1971 by the Mitteldeutscher Verlag . He also worked as a literary critic.

Hanna-Maria Fischer met the Puhdys on a tour together and established contact with her husband. Their collaboration began in 1971, while Tilgner wrote most of the band's songs. In 1982 the band and lyricist were awarded the GDR National Prize. In addition, Tilgner wrote for a number of other performers.

In 1982 he stopped working for the Friedrichstadtpalast, and one year later the collaboration with the Puhdys ended. From then on, Tilgner worked as a freelance writer. He published a number of books, mainly on pop and rock music.

Tilgner and Fischer lived in Hohen Neuendorf from 1975 until Tilgner's death .

Tilgner was run from 1968 to 1989 as IME Pergamon of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR. Joachim Walther stated that Tilgner reported extensively on his work in the Friedrichstadtpalast as well as on the GDR rock scene and the writers' association at that time.
