The Womrather Höhe is 599.1  m above sea level. NHN the highest elevation of the Lützelsoon , part of the Hunsrück low mountain range . It is located between Schliigart in the Rhein-Hunsrück district and Kellenbach in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The wooded mountain was named after the community of Womrath, 7 km north of the mountain summit, which owned three parcels on the Womrather Höhe until the extensive forest swap in the region in 1966 in today's Schlierschieder district. These quartzite rock formations lie on top of it: Teufelsfels with an observation tower , peep and cat stones.

The Womrather Höhe rises on the municipal boundary of Schliigart in the northwest and Kellenbach in the southeast: the municipality of Hennweiler joins in the south near the summit , and the municipality of Woppenroth extends to the western highlands . The Kellenbach (lower reaches of the Simmerbach) flows past to the east and the Hahnenbach to the west ; both are fed by streams that rise on the mountain slopes.

Natural allocation

The Womrather Höhe belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Hunsrück (No. 24), the main unit Soonwald (240) and the sub-unit Lützelsoon and Hahnenbachbruch (240.2) to the natural area Lützelsoon (240.20).

Protected areas

On the Womrather height are parts of the protected landscape Soonwaldsteig ( CDDA -No 324698;. 1980 272.001  square kilometers ). Those of the fauna-flora-habitat area Obere Nahe (FFH no. 6309-301; 56.27 km²) come up against its flanks . 2.6 km southwest of the summit is the Hirtenwiese nature reserve in Lützelsoon (CDDA no. 81877; identified in 1960; 0.85  ha in size).

Touristic

The quartzite rock formation Teufelsfels with an observation tower is located on the southwest flank of the Womrather Höhe . From the tower, also called Langer Heinrich , there is a view over the Womrather Höhe, the Lützelsoon and its surroundings. The European long-distance hiking trail E3 and the Soonwaldsteig run over the mountain .
