World Pool Series
The World Pool Series (also World 8-Ball Series ) is an 8-Ball - Pool Billiard Tournament Series in the United States . The venue for the tournaments is Steinway Billiards in the Astoria district of New York .
history
In November 2016, the WPA announced that it would support the World Pool Series tournament series planned by two-time world champion Darren Appleton . The first tournament in the series took place in January 2017. Before the second tournament, the mode was changed. The maximum number of participants was reduced from 128 to 96. While the first tournament was played entirely in the knockout system , it will now be played in the double knockout system until the round of 16 .
mode
Up to 96 players are invited for the individual tournaments. These are selected by the organizers on the basis of the world rankings and the rankings of the American billiards association BCA and by the sponsors as wild cards. In addition, there are up to 24 qualification tournaments per tournament in which starting places are played out. The 8-ball discipline is played , although some of the rules differ from the official WPA rules. The participants compete against each other in the double knockout system up to the round of 16 and then in the knockout system . The challenge tournaments, in which all players who do not reach the round of 16 in the main tournament are eligible, are played in the same mode, but with lower goals. A tour ranking list is created based on the results of the tournaments. The 128 top-placed players on this ranking qualify for the final tournament.
