World Association of Chefs Societies
The World Association of Chefs' Societies ( WACS , also WACS may be found, lit .: "World Association of Chef-clubs"; dt. : World Association of Chefs Societies , also called " World Chefs Association called"; fr. : Fédération mondiale des Sociétés de cuisiniers ; span .: Asociacion Mundial de Sociedades de Cocineros ) is an international network of national cooking associations founded in 1928.
Goal setting
The association is dedicated to maintaining and improving the culinary standards of the world's cuisines. He wants to achieve these goals through education, training and further education of his members. He sees himself as an authority and opinion maker when it comes to food, as well as a global voice for questions relating to the cooking profession. Motto: “ WACS, the global authority on food ” (German: “WACS, the global authority on food”).
history
At the end of the 19th century, contacts were established between various cooking associations (for example: International Association of German Chefs, UH Sections outside Switzerland, Association of Austrian Chefs ). In 1919 the International Labor Office was opened in Geneva . In 1920 there were first contacts to establish a world association, with Swiss chefs being very active and the Austrian and German chefs closely involved. The Swiss Cooking Association was also founded in May 1920 . From October 11-14, 1928, the founding congress took place at the Sorbonne in Paris , attended by 65 delegates from 17 countries representing 36 national and international associations. Auguste Escoffier was named first honorary president at this conference.
When the Second World War broke out, contact between the members ceased. The association's assets were 50,000 gold francs before the war and 50 Swiss francs after the war. In 1949, the World Federation was reanimated by the secretary of the Swiss Cooking Association (SKV) W. Salzmann and Swiss chefs in Geneva.
Since then, an international WACS congress has taken place every two years, which is a regular highlight of the culinary world. So far it has been held in 38 different cities. At the congress in 1962 it was decided that the World Federation's treasurer would always be a mandate of the Swiss Cooking Association, and that the World Federation's assets should be invested in a Swiss bank, regardless of which national association holds the presidency. At the 32nd WACS World Congress in 2006, the name was changed from World Association of Cooks Societies to World Association of Chefs Societies and a new logo was introduced. There was a rebrand in 2016 and the name has been modernized and supplemented with World Chefs in the organization and is currently more used like WACS.
In 2006 more than 70 nations were represented. In 2018, there were 94 official cooking associations, representing over 10 million professional chefs worldwide.
organization
The WACS is headed by an elected executive committee. It consists of the president ( president ), vice-president ( vice president ), treasurer ( treasurer ), the Secretary-General ( secretary general ) and the Honorary President (Ambassador / ambassador honourary president ). The chairmanship is usually taken over every four years by another national association, which thereby provides the president.
In addition to the Presidium, there is a committee of continental directors who are responsible for five world areas (Asia, Europe, Africa, Pacific, North and South America). Three other committees are responsible for different areas: The Culinary Competitions Committee deals with the international cooking competitions. There is also the Education Committee and the Marketing and Communication committee . There are also various other sub-committees.
The association's official languages are English, French, German and Spanish. The official business language of the WACS is English.
The members are national cooking associations. Each country is represented by a cooking association, which must have national significance. Only such members have voting rights. Individuals are members through their membership in national organizations. If a national organization is inactive for some time, membership can be given to another organization. In addition, there are other memberships for which you pay membership fees and receive various information and support. Up to a period of five years affiliated members (can for example in founding located national organizations affiliate members ) are. Related members ( associate members ) come from industry-related associations. Corporate members ( Corporate Members ) are companies, societies, catering schools and the like. Individuals who have made significant contributions to the organization can be made honorary members.
