Wysel Gyr
Wysel Gyr , actually Alois Gyr (* 7. September 1927 in Zurich , † 12. May 1999 ) was a Swiss television redaktor and - moderator . His specialty was Swiss folk music .
biography
Gyr played the accordion himself and was a folk musician prior to his television career. He was entitled to live in Einsiedeln and Zurich and learned typesetter , a profession that paved the way for many people to enter the media at the time. As a secondary education, he also completed a journalism training . After working as a typesetter for 13 years, he joined the newly founded TV station TV DRS as head of the “Heimat” department in 1961 . Wysel Gyr designed and organized over 500 programs there, including on agricultural and Romansh topics as well as commentaries and reports. In addition to his work in television, Gyr also worked as a writing journalist, articles and columns by him appeared in various magazines. In 1976 he became a freelancer and was responsible for folklore programs. His main area was traditional country music , which he promoted like no other television editor. Because of this commitment, he was also called pope of the country or folklore pope by the press . He benefited from his broad knowledge of folk music. Even after he was 65, he remained in the service of DRS television. In 1995 he was replaced by Kurt Zurfluh .
Gyr died in May 1999 at the age of 71.
Awards
In 1995 Wysel Gyr was awarded the Ehren-Prix-Walo . In 1986 he received the Golden Treble Clef in Zurich-Wiedikon for his services to Swiss nationality .

Wysel Gyr loved to travel the world. He was a passionate collector and archivist . There were around 30,000 records in his phonotheque , and every single title was carefully cataloged. He was also a lover of penguins , he had over 4000 units. In 1995 he sponsored animals with Zurich Zoo . A king penguin was then given the name Wysel .
