Xavier Miserachs
Xavier Miserachs i Ribalta (born July 12, 1937 in Barcelona , Spain , † August 14, 1998 in Badalona , Comarca Barcelona, Spain) was a Spanish photographer .
Life
Miserachs was the son of a hematologist and a librarian . He dropped out of medical school to devote himself to photography. Since 1957 he exhibited with other photographers for the first time. After doing his military service, he set up his own photo studio in his hometown. In addition to commissions for third parties, he began with his own editions such as Barcelona. Blanco y Negro , in which he showed the economic boom in Barcelona with 400 photographs or with the book Costa Brava Show .
In the 1960s Miserachs also worked as a reporter for weekly magazines such as Actualidad Española or Revista Triunfo and wrote photo reports for newspapers and magazines such as La Vanguardia (Barcelona) , Gaceta Ilustrada , Interviú , the Spanish edition of Harper's Bazaar or Magazin . Other reports covered, among other things, May 1968 in France , the London of the Beatles or the Prague Spring of 1968. He also traveled to North America, North, East and West Africa and Southeast Asia .
Miserachs helped found the Escola Eina art school , where he became one of the first photography professors. In 1997 he wrote his memoirs Hojas de contacto / Fulls de contacte .
Miserachs died of lung cancer in Badalona hospital. In 2011, his daughters loaned the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) its archive with more than 80,000 negatives and slides for a renewable period of 25 years.

Film work
Miserachs worked as a cameraman for several underground films by his friends Enrique Vila-Matas , Emma Cohen and Jordì Cardena . He directed and produced his own short film Amén historieta muda . In 1966 he made the film stills for Manuel Summers' film Juguetes rotos .
