The West River ( Chinese 西江 , Pinyin Xī Jiāng - "Western River", obsolete after Stange Sikiang ) is the 2,197 km long main stream of the Pearl River in southern China ( Asia ). Its source river in this flow path is the Nanpan Jiang .
River course
The most important river in southern China has its source in the east of Yunnan Province in Lianwan Shan . Its source is located northeast of Kunming and a little north of Qujing . From there, its water crosses the provinces of Yúnnán , Guìzhōu and Guǎngxī , whose borders it partly forms, and Guǎngdōng : initially Nanpan , later Hongshui , Qian and Xun and finally Xi Jiang ( western river ), it flows first in the southern and then mainly in east directions to Wuzhou . Further east, opens in Sanshui the North River ( Chinese 北江 , Pinyin Bei Jiang one - "Northern River"). There the west river divides: its main arm flows south over Jiangmen and reaches the South China Sea west of Macau ; In addition, the west river branches out as part of a bifurcation in a multi-armed river network, which merges in Guǎngdōng into the 177 km long Pearl River , which flows as a large estuary into the South China Sea .
meaning
The West River , which is the third longest river in the People's Republic of China after the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers , is the second richest river in China with around 7,410 m³ per second. Its lower course within the Pearl River is considered one of the most active economic areas in the country with special economic zones (see there).
