Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL ( Japanese 遊 ☆ 戯 ☆ 王ZEXALゼ ア ル, Yū-Gi-Ō Zearu from Engl. zeal , "King of Games: Zeal") is the follow-up series to Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s from the Yu-Gi-Oh! -Franchise. As with the predecessors, there is a manga and an anime.

action

The series takes place in the near future. Yūma Tsukumo is the protagonist who is challenged by Ryōga to a duel. Suddenly the mystical being astral appears, which helps him to conquer. Astral is looking for his memories, which have become monsters that now reside in 99 "number cards". To get this, Yūma must defeat the owners of the cards who are possessed by the numbers in a duel. So he becomes a better and better player and Astral can use these cards to regain his lost memory. But he's not the only one who hunts for "number cards".

In the second season, a new danger emerges from the Barian world, which are targeting the "Numbers" and Astral.

Characters

  • Yūma Tsukumo ( 九 十九 遊 馬 , Tsukumo Yūma ) is the main character of Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL. He lives with his big sister with his grandmother; his parents are on a research trip. He got his deck of playing cards from his father, his pendant, the "key", from his mother. Yūma wants to be the best duelist in the world, but initially appears to be very clumsy. Later he is the only person who can protect and save the astral world and the barian world from each other.
  • Astral ( ア ス ト ラ ル , Asutoraru ) is a mystical being. It appears in the middle of the duel between Yūma and Reginald and has been by Yūma's side ever since. To get his memories back, he looks for the 99 "number cards". From the second season he has the goal to defeat his archenemy Don Thousand from the Barian world, who was sealed with the seven mythyrian numbers, as well as the seven Barian emperors.
  • Reginald Kastle ( 神 代 凌 牙 , Kamishiro Ryōga ) is another duelist. He is nicknamed Shark . In the second season he learns that he is actually Nash, the leader of the Barians, and from that point on he has to fight Yuma. But his adversary Vector also stands in his way.
  • Tori Meadows ( 観 月 小鳥 , Mizuki Kotori ) is Yūma's childhood friend.
  • Kite Tenjo ( 天 城 カ イ ト , Tenjō Kaito ) is commissioned by Dr. Faker also on the hunt for the 99 "number cards", in the mistaken belief that he can help his brother in this way. On the moon, he has to fight the Barian Mizar in the second season for the Numeron code and a card that Yuma will use very well.
  • Bronk Stone ( 武田 鉄 男 , Takeda Tetsuo ) is another friend of Yūma and Tori.
  • Rey alias Vector pretended to be Yuma's friend, but later revealed himself to be one of the Barian emperors and thus an enemy who wanted to destroy Yuma and astral as well as the astral world.
