The district of Yupán is located in the province of Corongo in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on May 9, 1923. It has an area of 84.9 km². The 2017 census counted 735 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 438, in 2007 it was 759. The district administration is located in the 2734 m high village of Yupán with 690 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yupán is 9 km southwest of the provincial capital Corongo .
Geographical location
The district of Yupán is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southwest of the Corongo province. The Río Santa flows along the southwestern district boundary to the west, its left tributary Río Manta along the southeastern district boundary also to the west.
The district of Yupán borders in the southwest on the district Macate ( province Santa ), in the northwest on the district Bambas , in the northeast on the district Corongo and in the southeast on the district La Pampa .
