Yvonne Georgi was the daughter of an Oldenburg doctor and a North African mother. She was trained in rhythmic gymnastics in Hellerau , in modern artistic dance with Mary Wigman , in whose group she worked in Dresden , and much later in Paris in classical dance.

In 1924 Georgi was hired by Kurt Jooss as a solo dancer at the theater of the city of Münster and in 1925 by the artistic director Walter Bruno Iltz as the director of the dance group at the Reussische Theater Gera . There she opened her work with a dance evening consisting of “Arab Suite” and “Persian Ballet” by Egon Wellesz . Georgi also took part in the opera performances there. As a New Year's Eve premiere 1925/26, Vittorio Rietis came out shortly before of Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes dance comedy "Barabau". The performance even lured Berlin critics to Gera and made guest appearances at the Leipziger Schauspielhaus and the Berliner Volksbühne . In 1926 Georgi choreographed Igor Stravinsky'sPulcinella ”. Nevertheless, her dance troupe was dismissed “because of a lack of public interest” and Yvonne Georgi moved to Hanover .

1926–1931 Georgi was a “dance director” at the Hanover Municipal Theaters . She made guest appearances at the Berlin State Opera and performed as an expression dancer with Harald Kreutzberg , with whom she also made guest tours to the USA. In 1936 Georgi emigrated from Germany to Amsterdam , where she married and took Dutch citizenship, which she retained after her return to Germany in 1951.

From 1951 Yvonne Georgi worked first in Düsseldorf (again with Walter Bruno Iltz) and then again until 1970 as ballet director at the Hanover Opera House . From 1959 to 1973 Georgi was a professor at the Hanover University of Music and Theater .

Yvonne Georgi was given a grave of honor at the Engesohde city cemetery in Hanover. Her estate is in the German Dance Archive in Cologne and a smaller part in the Hanover Theater Museum.

Awards

In 1970 she received the Great Cross of Merit of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit and in 1974 she was awarded the Lower Saxony State Medal.
