The village of Zastler , today part of the municipality of Oberried in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district , is located east of Oberried in the lower Zastlertal . Zastler is a typical Black Forest town with old wooden houses and individual farmsteads . The place gave its name to the Zastler Hütte and the Zastler Loch .

geography

The place consists of the Zastlertal, which is traversed by the Zastlerbach or Osterbach and its side valley Stollenbach . It is limited by the Feldberg and Toter Mann mountain ridges in the south and the Hinterwaldkopf in the north. There you will find a natural phenomenon, the Zastler ice holes . Ancient times, rockfalls formed cavities in which the heavier cold air collects even in summer, so that you can often find ice there at the end of July. They have long been known by locals as natural refrigerators. Zastler, which was incorporated into Oberried on October 1, 1974, included the Adamshof, Burghardtshof, Gassenbauernhof, Glaserhausenhof, Jockelehof and -berghaus, Mederlehof, Schweizerhaus, Schweizerhof, Stefansgütle, Stollenbacherhof and Winterhalterhof and Schmiede and the Antoniushäusle, Breiterackerhaus residential areas Bürstenholzfabrik, Försterhaus, Holzmacherhaus, Kleislehof, Krummholzengütle, Mederleberghaus, Roteck, Schulhaus, Taddäushäusle, Weilersbacher Viehhütte and Zähringerhaus. In the district of the village there is the Postal Büschelesköpfle and the remains of the castle Zasteler stone (also castle on Adamshof called).

history

The name of the place Zastler is first recorded in 1557, originally it was only the name of the rear valley in the direction of Feldberg. This then prevailed for the entire valley in the 16th century. Before that it was first documented in 1311 under the name "Munswendi" - a name that later described only one farm as "Mißwende".

This name includes the term "svendi", which means something like cutting down, so that the origin is likely to be a woodcutter and glassworks settlement in the Middle Ages . Forest management was the basis of the economy until the end of the 19th century, as wood was an important building material and fuel. The valley was one of the most important suppliers of wood for Freiburg. The wood was brought to Freiburg via the waterway that ended at Nägelesee, which was located at the old measuring point in Freiburg.

At the beginning of the 16th century, the Zastlertal was owned by the Schnewlin von Landeck family and belonged to the Ebnet estate . The Schnewlins had acquired the rights to the area from the Lords of Falkenstein , whose importance in the Dreisamtal declined from the 15th century . In 1568 the Lords of Sickingen took over the rule as heirs of the Schnewlin von Landeck and in 1651 bequeathed some of it to the Lords of Pfirt . In 1670 ownership of the place went to the barons of Neveu . In 1786, ecclesiastical responsibility was transferred from the parish of Kirchzarten to Oberried. After the Upper Austrian Breisgau fell with the Peace of Pressburg in 1806 to the Electorate of Baden , which was elevated to the Grand Duchy the following year , the Baden state became the landlord from 1809.

On October 1, 1974, Zastler was incorporated into the municipality of Oberried together with Hofsgrund and St. Wilhelm.
