Zhongpu ( Chinese  中埔鄉 , Pinyin Zhōngpǔ Xiang , PEH OE jī Tiong-PO hiong ) is a rural municipality ( , Xiang ) in Chiayi County the Republic of China on Taiwan .

location

Zhongpu is located in the southeast of Chiayi County. The municipality has a round shape (with a diameter of about 12 kilometers) with a spur that protrudes about 6 km to the west. The neighboring communities are Fanlu to the north and east, Dapu to the south, Baihe Ward of Tainan to the southwest, and Shuishang to the west. In the northwest, Zhongpu borders the city of Chiayi.

In the north and northwest, the river Bazhang ( 八掌溪 , Bāzhǎng Xī ) forms the border with the neighboring community Fanlu over a longer section. Towards the west the topography becomes flatter and merges into the Jianan Plain . In the east, Zhongpu is part of the Alishan Central Mountains .

history

In the Japanese period (1895-1945) Zhongpu was from October 1, 1920 a 'village' ( , Zhuāng ) in Tainan Prefecture . After the Republic of China took over Taiwan in 1946, the prefecture became Tainan County and Zhongpu became a 'rural community' ( , Xiang ). On October 25, 1950, parts of Tainan County formed the new Chiayi County, and Zhongpu has been part of Chiayi County ever since. In October 1964, a small area adjustment took place which Zhongpu lost some areas in the east to the neighboring community Fanlu.

At the end of 2017, 217 people (around 0.5%) belonged to the indigenous peoples .

In the west, the highway (national road) 3 runs past the eastern outskirts of Chiayi and also crosses the area of ​​Zhongpu. Provincial Road 18 runs in a west-east direction to the north of Zhongpu and later turns north. Provincial Road 3 comes from the north, runs roughly through the middle of Zhongpu and later turns east. District road 172 branches off from here and continues south.

Sightseeing and tourism

The main attractions are in the area of ​​nature. Most of Zhongpu belongs to the Siraya National Scenic Area ( 西拉雅 國家 風景區 , Xīlāyǎ Guójiā Fēngjǐng Qū ), one of the officially designated areas of nature tourism in Taiwan, which begins east of Highway 3. One of the places of interest are the hot springs in the village of Zhonglun ( 澐 水溪 溫泉 , Yúnshuǐ Xī wēnquán , ). World icon

The Wufeng Temple ( 吳鳳 廟 , Wúfèng miào , ) in Shekou village was founded in 1820 during the reign of Jiaqing . In 1906 the temple was destroyed by the Meishan earthquake and then rebuilt with the support of the Japanese administration. Further modifications and extensions were made in 1931 and 1985.
