Vegetative characteristics

The carpenter ash grows in the tropics as a tree that reaches heights of up to about 10 meters. The leaf stalks, leaf axils and inflorescences are bare.

The constantly against arranged on the branches leaves are divided into petiole and leaf blade. The compound leaf blade is pinnate two to three times. The leaf rhachis has a length of about 30 cm. The lateral stalks of the partial leaves are shorter than 5 millimeters; the terminal is 1 to 2 centimeters long. The partial leaves are ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 4 to 7 inches long and 2 to 3.5 inches wide. They have no hairs, the base is broadly wedge-shaped, the edge is entire, the tip is appendage-pointed. There are five or six lateral leaf veins on each side of the midrib .

Generative characteristics

The flowering period in China extends from May to September. The umbelliferous inflorescences are terminal, upright, and are 25 to 35 centimeters long. The early falling bracts are linear-lanceolate at a length about 10 centimeters. The bracts have a length of 4 to 6 centimeters.

The hermaphrodite flower is zygomorphic and five-fold with a double flower envelope. The five-toothed calyx is about 12 centimeters long and has ovate-lanceolate calyx teeth. The crown is white to pale yellow, bell-shaped to funnel-shaped and 6 to 8 inches long. The calyx lobes are rounded and about 2.5 inches long. The four stamens form two different shapes, there are thread-like, sterile stamens. The ovules are double row, the stylus prominent, the scar is bilobed.

The nodding, relatively long, round capsule fruits that ripen between October and December have a length of about 85 centimeters and a diameter of about 1 centimeter. The pericarp is thin leathery, lenticels are only indistinctly developed. The septum (septum) is twisting and slightly pressed in. The seeds are elliptical, including the wing about 2 cm × 5 mm in size.

Occurrence

Radermachera sinica is widespread in the Chinese provinces of Guangdong , Guangxi , Guizhou and Yunnan and in Taiwan , in Bhutan , Assam , Darjeeling , in northern Myanmar and in Vietnam . The distribution area extends from the Himalayas to Taiwan and the Malay Peninsula. In China it grows on mountain slopes and in forests at altitudes of 300 to 800 meters.
