The Zschorlaubach , with its source river, the Filzbach, is an approximately 8 km long left tributary of the Zwickauer Mulde in the Western Ore Mountains in the Free State of Saxony .
Surname
The name Filzbach is derived from the word "felt" for peaty / boggy ground on which the stream rises. Like the town of Zschorlau, Zschorlaubach is derived from the Upper Franconian word “zschorlen”, which describes the sound of a rushing trickle.
course
The Zschorlaubach rises as a Filzbach in the high moor of the Hartmannsdorfer Forst near Lichtenau . In the vicinity of the Schneeberg district of Wolfgangmaßen , it has been dammed up since 1485 to form Saxony's second oldest dam, the Filzteich . Then it flows past the treasure trove "Peter and Paul", crosses the federal highway 169 , touches the treasure trove "Wolfgangmaßen" and reaches the place Zschorlau . In the upper village of Zschorlau, the Filzbach and the Seifenbach, which is combined with the Goldbächel, flow together and are now called "Zschorlaubach". The Zschorlaubach flows through the whole town of Zschorlau, passes at the end of the town in a narrow valley, the Gößnitzgrund, the visitor mine St. Anna am Freudenstein and reaches the urban area of Aue in front of the exchange mill . In the Neudörfel district , the stream is crossed by the raft ditch , which is led over it in a trough (picture). Then the Zschorlaubach flows through the district of Auerhammer , where it flows into the Zwickauer Mulde .
history
The Filzteich is the second oldest reservoir in the Ore Mountains. When a dam broke on the Filzteich pond in 1783, 4 houses in Zschorlau were totally destroyed and 18 people were killed. After the dam was rebuilt, the felt pond was visited three years later by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe . In August 2002 another heavy flood occurred along the Zschorlaubach.
additional
The felt pond was created between 1483 and 1485 as a water reservoir for the Schneeberg mining industry. While part of the water flows off above ground via the Filzbach, impact water reaches the pits of the Schneeberg-Neustädtler mining area underground through tunnels and flows over the Marx-Semler-Stolln into the Zwickauer Mulde near Bad Schlema .
