The German Spitz are a German breed of dog recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 5, Section 4, Standard No. 97 ).
Origin and history
The theory that the Spitz family descended from the prehistoric peat dog is now considered outdated. For centuries, lace was and is bred all over Europe and spread from there to other parts of the world ( Japanese Spitz , American Eskimo Dog ).
Nowadays, lace is available in many different sizes (from 18 to 55 cm shoulder height) and in numerous colors (black, white, orange, gray, cloudy, brown, piebald, black-and-tan and many shades of color).
In 2003, the Großspitz and Mittelspitz, together with the German Pinscher, were declared an endangered, endangered domestic animal breed by the GEH ( Society for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Pet Breeds ) . The Großspitz was classified as extremely endangered.
description
Lace are bred in a wide variety of sizes. What they all have in common is their long, dense fur.
- Wolfspitz
- It reaches a height at the withers of 49 cm ± 6 cm and is gray-clouded, i. H. silver gray with blackish hair tips.
- Großspitz
- The Großspitz is an excellent house guardian and companion dog . The stocky dog with the “pointed” muzzle of a fox has medium-length, soft, thick hair in black, brown and white. The height at the withers is 46 cm ± 4 cm.
- Central point
- The colors are black, brown, white, orange, gray clouds, different colors, with a size of 34 cm ± 4 cm.
- Kleinspitz
- The second smallest spitz is about 26 cm ± 3 cm tall, the colors of the fur are black, brown, white, orange, gray-clouded, other colors.
- Pomeranian
- Also: Pommer , Pommeraner , Pomeranian
- At 18 to 22 cm the smallest of the Spitz breed. The fur is black, brown, white, orange, gray clouds, different colors.
The term differently colored includes all shades such as cream, creme- sable , orange-sable, black-and-tan and piebald . Piebalds must have a basic white color. The black, brown, gray or orange patches of color must be distributed over the whole body.
use
As a rule, the Spitz is a reliable watchdog who emphatically and loudly reports disturbances in his territory. This quality has earned him the reputation of a barker and thus brought him somewhat discredited. The Groß- and Mittelspitz are on the “red list”.
Essence
Outstanding house, family and guard dogs are great . The FCI breed standard describes them as lively and affectionate with their owners. They tend to be suspicious of strangers, an aspect of watchdog status. Raising tips is usually very simple.
