"You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, but I Feel Like a Millionaire"
Song

"You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire" is the first track on the 2002 album Songs for the Deaf by hard rock band Queens of the Stone Age. It was sung by Nick Oliveri, the bands then-bassist, and backing vocals were done by Josh Homme. It is also the song on the album with the longest title.

The song was originally recorded on the Desert Sessions Volumes 5 & 6, by Joshua Homme and Mario Lalli of Yawning Man fame.

History and Conception

The album, Songs for the Deaf, was supposedly inspired by Homme's long and uncomfortable drive through a desert in Southern California, with few radio stations. As keeping with the rest of the album, the song begins with a lengthy radio intro, including an introduction to the song by Kip Casper, fictional DJ for "KLON", Clone Radio Los Angeles. The entire album features fake radio excerpts between most of the songs, mainly making fun of radio stations throughout the US.

Song

The Queens' studio version features Oliveri singing in his trademark hardcore screaming style. Since Oliveri's departure from the band, Homme now sings the lead vocals in his softer voice, whilst new bassist Michael Schuman employs his talent for screaming in the background vocals. Parts of the song refer to bullfighting:

Dead bull with the life from the low

I’ll be massive conquistador

...

Gimmie toro, gimme some more

And possibly shots of liquor:

Space flunky, four on the floor

Fortified with the liquor store

This one's down, gimme some more
