user Ctjf83

You would not make that comment if you had followed the full course of Ctjf83's behaviour in this instance. However, this matter is now closed. --Geronimo20 (talk) 02:36, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well that's exactly what Ctjf83 did to Rhyme and Reason. I agree I shouldn't have suggested he improve Wikipedia by taking a holiday, but he really annoyed me by his refusal to acknowledge the harm he did. Anyway - enough. Can we please drop this now. --Geronimo20 (talk) 02:45, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IMDb is a reliable source because it has a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Plus, Wikipedia: Wikiproject Films condones using the IMDb.

The IGN quote is not a long one and in this case it is better to quote than to paraphrase. Troy McClure, the only Simpsons character featured article, uses quotes of the same size in its "Reception" section. And ellipses do not belong in brackets. Brackets are used to insert words in a quote that weren't said; ellipses represent omitted words.Tj terrorible1 (talk) 15:21, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Homer Simpson

I'll take a look. If there's anything I can't immediately fix, I'll post a note on the article's talk page. Zagalejo^^^ 18:24, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's a DVD comprising a series of interviews with the staff, primarily about the movie, conducted and produced and distributed by The Sun. Although its The Sun, it is reliable as its basically just Groening and Silverman talking. Gran2 21:10, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I don't think that's substantially different than what we have now. Even if you put the episode name in parentheses, you'd still need to explicitly state, in the body of the text, that those details are held to be true only in certain episodes. (Although admittedly, it is difficult to do that without weighing down the prose with repetitive expressions. I put together a few drafts late last night, but wasn't satisfied with any of them.)

In truth, I don't really see the need to go into so much detail about Homer's backstory in the first place. First because most of it has been totally contradicted, and second because we don't attempt to chronicle Homer's wacky adventures that occurred in the fictional "present", like the trip to outer space or the climbing of the Murderhorn. If it were up to me, all I'd say about Homer's past would be the following:

"Past episodes have provided details about Homer's youth and young adulthood, though the series does not maintain perfect continuity. In earlier episodes, it was established that Homer fell in love with Marge while they were high schoolers in the 1970s, and that he married her a few years later when she was pregnant with Bart. However, the recent episode "That 90's Show" asserts that Homer and Marge lived together without children in the 1990s."

Maybe we could also throw in something about his mother somewhere. At the beginning of the section, we could say that both of Homer's parents are living, but that his mother went into hiding when he was a child. Zagalejo^^^ 00:00, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should focus a little more back on being an FL director as there are articles deserving a promotion to FL. -- K. Annoyomous24[c] 04:04, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simpsons FT drives

Sorry if I hastened into this. I did not mean to distract editors. The only reason I did it it was because I saw that there is a season 10 drive which has few GAs already. I thought that the two I added are significantly closer to completion and I thought users might want to focus on those instead of the 10 one. Nergaal (talk) 00:47, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Duff Beer

Hello, why did you remove (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Duff_Beer&diff=next&oldid=229135364) the paragraph on the European "Duff" beer? It was also confirmed by another contributor, who noticed identical labeling to the Mexican scam. The label has now been added again as "official", without any source.

Unless you have some specific information, I will add again a note qualifying that as a probable scam. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arcturus4669 (talkcontribs) 21:57, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Homer Simpson edits

It's not the MOS--references can be done pretty much any way you'd like, as long as it's somewhat sensible. That template isn't used much, but I think it is useful in articles like this one where there are only a few book references, so it doesn't make as much sense to separate out the books into a separate section (at least in my view, since they're not qualitatively different, and make up only a small portion of the references overall). You're free to change it back, but I think it makes the references perhaps a little bit easier to use, since you're not jumping between sections? Hi, I am wondering if you can close this FLC for me as a reviewer suggested me to bring the article to peer review. Thanks—Chris! ct 00:56, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merging unqualified FLCs into parent lists

For lists that do not qualify for FLC status because they have less than ten items, I guess their items should be merged into their parent article? I don't think this has ever been done before, at least not to a parent article who passes FLC itself. For instance, since you're familiar with my university lists, I'll use those as an example. Some of the provinces don't have enough universities to qualify for FLC, so I will merge those into the parent article of List of universities in Canada. If you look at it now, it's just a list of universities with no statistics or anything. How should the page be formatted to reach FL status, especially if some of those provinces will branch off into their own List of universities in Province articles? Gary King (talk) 16:12, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, this guy supported their own article. Gary King (talk) 16:40, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll probably have separate articles for all of the provinces, then merge back the provinces that have less than 10 universities into the main list. Gary King (talk) 16:45, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks a lot for the barnstar. I'm glad to know my edits are appreciated. =) TheLeftorium 18:45, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simpsons Episode list

Your edit says "experimenting", but I think the page was better the way it was. The links were more clear, and that table is not really necessary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.10.72.228 (talk) 21:10, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here is my reasoning. The season links were much easier to click on and read using the standard wiki table of contents. As a temporary solution, I've added the word "Season" to each number to make it easier to click on. Hopefully we can work something better out, though, because I really think the old way was easier to understand. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.10.72.228 (talk) 05:32, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FLC reviews

I noticed that a few recently promoted FLs had some prose issues that weren't brought up during FLC. I guess I'm going to go back to reviewing as much as I can, and I'm going to start kicking ass and taking names. We'll need more prose reviewers as TRM slowly fades away (I hope he doesn't, though) so feel free to form an open invitation for that. Gary King (talk) 06:45, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to hear it failed so soon! I have been extremely busy the last few days and was waiting till I had an extended period of time to read it thoroughly (I have some tomorrow). That was very fast to fail an FAC! The article improved dramatically during the FAC process and I was not expecting this outcome, certainly not so soon. I will go through it tomorrow and give as thorough a review as I can and hopefully iron out any remaining problems. Assuming all is sorted tomorrow, I will be happy to support next time. Regards and commiserations. --Jackyd101 (talk) 19:53, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When does the contest start? When can we nominate the articles for FLC? -- K. Annoyomous24[c] 03:11, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about if I just delete the section on Province and territories of Canada and put {{main|List of Canadian provinces and territories in order of entering Confederation}} to replace it. -- K. Annoyomous24[c] 01:56, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for giving me a suggestion which can make my odds of winning the contest higher. -- K. Annoyomous24[c] 02:45, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for bothering you so much about the FLC contest, but I was wondering if I could co-nominate a FLC for the contest. I know it could be a little advantage on the other entrants, but I hope you are willing to let me co-nominate. The reason I am asking you this question is because Arctic.gnome is still active on Wikipedia and he did more than 50 edits on the article, List of premiers of British Columbia, and it would be unfair if he doesn't get credit for his work. -- K. FL contest

Can I count "List of W. S. Gilbert's dramatic works" as Literature? Because we do rather need both lists, and I've been meaning to do both for a while. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 22:32, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm.

One problem I kind of foresee is that some lists are easier to do than others - List of transitional species, for instance, will be closer to a featured article, with lots of reasearch, whereas simpler lists might be relatively easier. How about a judges' choice award for best featured list(s) created in the contest? Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 22:38, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's fair, but do any of my categories now count as underrepresented? By which I mean, I don't think there are very many, if any, FLs in any of those topics, but none are on the official list, and I'm not sure if that list is prescriptive, or just examples. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 22:47, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, by the way, I did work on some biological topics years ago, under an old nick, but haven't in at least a year. There were some somewhat related to transitional species, but nothing very close - I was one of about 20 working on Evolution and one of two on Ediacaran biota. Is that a problem? Sorry, I just want to make sure I'm rigidly fair about this =) Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 22:51, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just remember I am, of course, one of the leading members of the Gilbert and Sullivan project, with FAs such as Thespis (opera), Creatures of Impulse and Trial by Jury. I haven't nominated any biological FLs, certainly, but... you see why I'm a little cautious here. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 23:02, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was just wondering who you invited to the contest. -- K. Annoyomous24[c] 22:53, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean by regulars? -- K. Annoyomous24[c] 22:57, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Could I switch from List of Bleach video games to List of Soul Eater chapters? Despite how the list looks, the lead needs a big rewrite (too much in-universe detail), the table needs refs and plot summaries (see List of D.Gray-man chapters, List of Claymore chapters). As such, it's needs quite a bit of work to get to FL. Cheers, — sephiroth bcr (converse) 23:10, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, also. I respectfully submit that, I will retain this List of Philippines Chief Justices by time in office and I deleted the other 2 (but if the retained is not approved, then one of the other 2 articles created by me, may be instead be entered). List of Philippines Chief Justices by time in office may be patterned after List of United States Chief Justices by time in office; however, there is an existing-related Philippine article on this:Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court, and maybe, before I create it, I will notify our Philippine Tambayan. And in the meantime, I will delete my submitted 2 articles in view of the rules. Cheers.--Florentino floro (talk) 06:30, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I just read the Leaving Springfield chapter and I can't find anything that would be useable for the article. Basically, it is an analysis, which I think goes to far to be mentioned in an encyclopedia. --Maitch (talk) 09:21, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Laureates

Hey Scorp. Nice work, but if had to go any particular route, I'd look at just creating a "Portrait" column and keeping the images in that? I've seen that a few times. I'd also make the country col thinner and break between multiple winners' nationalities... Hope that helps a little? The Rambling Man (talk) 16:11, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the way you have it is fine right now, although like I say, a separate column for the portrait would work too. As for the break, I mean force a linebreak between the country names of multiple winners using <br>? Let me know if I can help out... The Rambling Man (talk) 16:24, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the break thing, bingo. The flag thing, probably not. Check your potential usage with WP:MOSFLAG - I seem to recall nationality flags ought to have the country next to them too, which you could do... The Rambling Man (talk) 17:46, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:FLCon Awards

I think there should be an award for the most Supports for a list or for a trio of lists. -- K. Annoyomous24[c] 05:34, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To be frank, that's a silly award. How many "support" !votes an article gets is irrelevant, and it varies depending on the number of reviewers available. The nominator has zero control over such a thing and it would be purely luck-based. — sephiroth bcr (converse) 06:16, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
