- Many (all?) of these IPs appear to be open proxies, so in theory the person(s) responsible could continue this indefinitely, or until s/e/they exhaust the proxy list being used; page protection seems to be the only effective measure, but of course, that's only temporary. There used to be a mechanism that'd autoblock proxies when a user tried to edit with one, but that was soon disabled. I'm not sure why, but it probably had to do with AOL and other legitimate proxy-utilising ISPs. Wish I could help more. -- Hadal 06:30, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, the proxy-blocker scanned everyone editing, and got some (rather silly) complaints from ISPs. There is talk of bringing it back on a limited scale though. The way I see it this is going fine though, there aren't that many open proxies, eventually we'll have the majority of them blocked. Make sure to check for proxies when blocking though! (just plugging the ip surrounded by quotes into google is enough to find out of it's an open proxy in 90% of the cases). --fvw* 06:37, 2005 Jan 23 (UTC)

Superking
- Superking (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
- Edited several pages, inserting false information about a livestock shortage in Russia in 1872. Among the vandalized pages was an image of several versions of the USS Enterprise. The user dismisses his act as harmful because "It's not MY fault they let any idiot edit any page."
- The above was added by (67.138.164.62 | talk | contributions), presumably on the basis of this: [9] I only see this one page, not "several pages", and I don't see any contribution or talk page where Superking allegedly wrote "It's not MY fault they let any idiot edit any page", nor do there seem to be any prior instances of vandalism by Superking. There's something odd about this and the reporting of it. Temporary hijacking of Superking's account? -- Curps 07:11, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)

- I think the editor in question has a lot to learn and is going to need a lot of guidance, but I'm not sure any of it is strictly vandalism. --fvw* 22:50, 2005 Jan 22 (UTC)
- Well that's one interpretation. Be that as it may, nearly all of his "contributions" end up needing to be deleted or reverted, so in practice the distinction is nearly moot. -- Curps 22:59, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)
