Kamel Fathi Ghilas (born March 9, 1984 in Marseille, France) is an Algerian football player of Kabyle origin who currently plays for Celta Vigo in the Spanish Segunda División.

Career

AS Cannes

Ghilas began his career in the youth ranks of FC Martigues. At the age of 18, he left the club and joined AS Cannes, who were playing in the French Championnat National. He quickly broke into the first team, making 18 appearances in his first season mostly as a striker. In the 2004-2005 season, Ghilas established himself as a starter in the Cannes midfield. He would go on the lead the team in scoring, netting 7 times in 31 appearances. The following year, Ghilas returned to the front line and continued to score goals. He found the net 13 times in 35 games for the team, as they narrowly missed promotion to Ligue 2, finish 2 points behind FC Libourne-Saint-Seurin for the 3rd and final promotion spot. His best season at Cannes, would also be his last as Ghilas left to sign with Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães in the summer of 2006 having signed a 2-year contract with the club.

Vitória Guimarães

In the 2006-2007 season, his first with the club, Ghilas helped Vitória S.C. move to the top flight Portuguese league after they finished second in the Liga de Honra, during which Ghilas was voted one of the best players of the season after scoring 12 goals in 29 appearances.

The following season, Ghilas took the team to even bigger heights, scoring 6 goals in 29 games and helping the team finish third in the BWIN Liga and more importantly earn a place in the third round qualifiers of the UEFA Champions League. However, the end of his season was overshadowed by a contract dispute between Ghilas and the club. With his contract expiring at the end of the summer, Ghilas was looking for a new deal. However, the club could only offer him an improved contract of 150,000 € and at the end of the season Ghilas was able to leave on a free transfer. During the summer he was linked with a move to Arsenal F.C. and Turkish-side Kocaelispor.

Celta Vigo

On July 12, 2008, Celta Vigo announced that they had signed Kamel Ghilas from Vitoria Guimaraes [1] [2]. He signed a three-year contract worth 300,000 € a year.[3].

Ghilas scored his first goals for Celta Vigo in a 2-1 league win over CD Tenerife [4].
