(278141) Tatooine is an asteroid of the inner main belt , which was discovered on February 15, 2007 by the amateur astronomers Stefan Karge and Erwin Schwab . The discovery took place from the Hans-Ludwig-Neumann-Observatory ( IAU-Code B01) on the Kleiner Feldberg in the Taunus .
On June 30, 2017, Asteroid Day , the name of the asteroid was confirmed by the International Astronomical Union . Tatooine is a desert planet in the fictional Star Wars films that orbits a pair of twin suns. It is the home planet of Anakin Skywalker and his son Luke Skywalker .
