(2808) Belgrano ( 1976 HS ; 1934 GX ; 1936 PN ; 1962 PO ; 1968 UC ; 1978 SK 2 ; 1979 YM 2 ; 1981 EE 8 ) is an asteroid about twelve kilometers in size of the outer main belt , which occurred on April 23, 1976 on Felix Aguilar Observatory in El Leoncito National Park in the province of San Juan in Argentina ( IAU code 808). It belongs to the Eos family , a group of asteroids named after (221) Eos .

designation

(2808) Belgrano was named after Manuel Belgrano (1770-1820), who created the flag of Argentina . After studying law in Spain , he returned to his native Argentina and was Secretary of the Consulate of Commerce of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata . As a staunch supporter of freedom and education, he welcomed the establishment of the schools for agriculture , trade and shipping in Río de La Plata and worked to improve the social and economic conditions of his people. As a pioneer of the May Revolution and member of the first government assembly of Río de La Plata (1810) he took part in the campaign to Paraguay in 1811 and defeated the Spanish armed forces in San Miguel de Tucumán and Salta (city) (1812/13). He traveled to Europe on a diplomatic mission in order to gain independence for the South American countries.
