(88071) Taniguchijiro is a major outer belt asteroid discovered on November 4, 2000 at the Japanese Saji Observatory ( IAU code 867) in Tottori .

The mean diameter of the asteroid was calculated to be 8.068 (± 0.307) km .

The mean distance from the Sun ( semi-major axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of the asteroid are similar to the orbital data of the members of the Cybele group, a family of asteroids beyond the Hecuba Gap . The members' orbits are in 7: 4 resonance with the planet Jupiter , which stabilizes them. The group was named after the asteroid (65) Cybele .

(88071) Taniguchijiro was named after the Mangaka Jirō Taniguchi , who was born in Tottori . After applying in September 2011, the nomination took place on February 7, 2012. The reason for the nomination was the appointment of Jirō Taniguchi as Chevalier des Arts et Lettres 2011.
