Émile François Cornellie (born August 15, 1869 in Vlissingen , Netherlands , † December 27, 1945 in Antwerp ) was a Belgian sailor .

Émile Cornellie which for the Royal Yacht Club Oostende sailed, was in 1920 in Antwerp at the Olympic Games in the 6-meter class after the International Rule of 1907 Olympic champion . He was the skipper of the Edelweiß II , whose crew consisted of his son Florimond Cornellie and Frédéric Bruynseels . The Edelweiß II had three competitors in three races and took second place in the first and third races and first place in the second. With five points overall, Cornellie finished the regatta in first place ahead of the two Norwegian boats Marmi and Stella .

Cornellie attended the Naval Academy while in the military and graduated as an officer. He served on both military and civilian passenger ships between Ostend and Dover. In addition, he also taught naval academy while he was active in sailing. In this he won numerous regattas and races. During the First World War , Cornellie supported Allied troops from the sea with torpedo boats and marines. After the war he became a naval advisor.
