Charles William Henry Crichton (born July 7, 1872 in Colchester , † November 8, 1958 in Bontddu , Wales ) was a British sailor .

Charles Crichton, of the Royal Southern Yacht Club sailed, was in 1908 in London at the Olympic Games in the 6-meter class Olympic champion . He was a crew member of the Dormy , the rest of the crew consisted of skipper and ship designer Gilbert Laws and ship owner Thomas McMeekin . With two victories in the first two races, the overall victory was already certain ahead of time, as the best placement, including the number, was decisive for the placement. In the third race, the Dormy came third and finally finished the regatta in first place in front of the allot of Léon Huybrechts and the Guyoni of Henri Arthus .

During his military service in India , Crichton was active in the Royal Bombay Yacht Club . During the First World War , he first served as a major in the 10th Royal Hussars of the British Army and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1915 two days after being awarded the Distinguished Service Order . His father had been a military colonel . His two grandfathers were Earl Erne on his father's side and Earl Northbrook on his mother's side.
