Career

society

Ömer Kılıç began with club football in the youth teams of various amateur clubs in his hometown Ordu. For the 1990/91 season he was accepted into the squad as an amateur player at the then second division club Orduspor and completed two league and one cup encounters in the first season. At the end of the season he was given a professional contract and a full member of the professional team. The second season he quickly got a regular place. In the 1992/93 season Orduspor missed participation in the promotion group and thus the only opportunity to climb. Since the club had also managed to stay in the league, several players were loaned to other clubs to save money. So Kılıç also spent the second half of the season at league rivals Sökespor . At the end of the season he returned to Orduspor and played another season for this club.

For the season 1994/95 he moved to the first division club Bursaspor . At his new club, he enjoyed the trust of the newly hired coach Nejat Biyediç from the start . So he quickly fought for a regular place and at the end of the season advanced to one of the youngsters in the league. His club finished the season in 6th place in the table and qualified for the next season for the UEFA Intertoto Cup . Kılıç himself rose to the national team and was courted by the three Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş , Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray , Beşiktaş at the urging of coach Christoph Daum started several attempts to commit Kılıç. In the pre-season UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1995 , they finished the group stage confidently as first in Group 10. In the last sixteen they met the Greek representative OFI Crete and defeated them 2-1. In the quarter-finals they met Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC . The match played in front of a home crowd became one of the most thrilling and legendary matches in the club's history. In the game Karlsruhe took the lead with a goal from Thomas Häßler in the 26th minute. Regular time later ended 2-2. In stoppage time, Ercüment Şahin took a 3-2 lead with a well-aimed shot. Karlsruhe equalized five minutes before the end of the game. The game decided Karlsruhe after penalties 9: 8 for themselves. The season was rather mixed for Bursaspor and they ended the season somewhat disappointing in 9th place in the table. The successful coach Biyediç was dismissed after the 28th matchday after a 2: 4 defeat against Kocaelispor and replaced by Sinan Bür until the end of the season .

In the following years, Kılıç was still set as a top performer at Bursaspor, only he was no longer considered for the national teams and did not make it into the transfer lists of the larger clubs. At the end of the 2003/04 season , his club missed the league of the Süper Lig after 38 years of first division participation and was relegated to the TFF 1. Lig . After this failure, Bursaspor separated from many players, including Kılıç.

After separating from Bursaspor, Kılıç moved to the second division Dardanelspor in the summer of 2004 and played a season here. He then moved to the third highest Turkish league, the TFF 2nd Lig , to Şanlıurfaspor . After a year for this club, he ended his active football career.

National team

Due to his convincing performance at Bursaspor, he caught the eye of the Turkish national coach Fatih Terim in 1995 and was nominated by him for the first time in February 1995 for the Turkish national team . In the test match against the Romanian national team on February 15, 1995, he sat on the bench. A month later, he received another nomination in a friendly against the Israeli national team , but was also on the bench in that game. He made his international debut in June 1995 during a friendly against the Canadian national team . After this game he was nominated two more times, where he came to another international match.
