history

Archaeological finds prove an early settlement of the area; There was a pagan burial place between Želí and Libčany.

According to the chronicle of the Libčany manor written by Jan Ferdinand Setunský, the oldest mention of the Želí fortress and manor is from 1098. However, only one mention from 1363 can be documented. In 1503 the Hradec Králové citizen Václav Nejedlý from Vysoká bought the estate. His son Jindřich Nejedlý von Vysoká acquired the Libčany estate from Johann von Pernstein's sons in 1549 and united Želí with it. The fortress Želí went out in the following time, its location was on the pond on the eastern edge of the village.

In 1674 Libčany was inherited by the Straka von Nedabylic family . Johann Peter Straka von Nedabylic (1645-1720) decreed in his will laid down in 1710 the establishment of the Straka-Stift to establish a noble knight academy for young impoverished aristocrats, into which his goods Liebtschan , Okrauhlitz and Ober Weckelsdorf flowed.

In 1835 the village of Schelly or Žely , located in the Königgrätzer Kreis , consisted of 17 houses in which 75 people lived. The parish was Liebtschan. Until the middle of the 19th century, Schelly remained subject to the Liebtschan Foundation.

After the abolition of patrimonial Žely formed from 1849 a municipality in the judicial district of Nechanitz . From 1868 the village belonged to the Königgrätz district . In 1900 the village had 95 inhabitants and consisted of 18 houses. By order of the Linguistic Commission in Prague, Želí was established as the official place name in 1920 . In 1927 there were 129 people in the community. In 1949 Želí was assigned to the Okres Hradec Králové-okolí; this was lifted in the course of the territorial reform of 1960, since then the village has belonged to Okres Hradec Králové. On June 14, 1964 it was incorporated into Libčany. On March 3, 1991 the place had 58 inhabitants; in the 2001 census, 63 people lived in Želí's 20 houses.
