Roman Empire
- The Roman Senate issues the lex Aelia Sentia , which regulates the release of slaves . The age of the owner must be at least 20 years, that of the slave 30 years.
- February 21 : Gaius Caesar , designated successor to the emperor, is wounded on a mission to Armenia during the siege of the city of Artagira. He dies on the way home.
- June 26th : After the death of his two adoptive sons Lucius and Gaius Caesar, Emperor Augustus is forced to reorganize his succession. He adopts his stepson, the 42-year-old Tiberius Claudius Nero ("Tiberius") under the name Tiberius Julius Caesar . This in turn adopts the only 19-year-old son of Drusus , Nero Claudius Germanicus ("Germanicus"), who receives the name Gaius Iulius Caesar Germanicus . Third in line to the throne is Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa Postumus , who was also adopted by Augustus and the son of Augustus' daughter Iulia . He was given the name Agrippa Iulius Caesar .
- Tiberius again takes over the supreme command of the Roman army in Germania .
- Delegations from the Roman Empire and the Cherusci meet in the northern Rhine Valley . A friendship pact is concluded between the Rome-friendly King Segimer and Tiberius. The king's sons, Arminius and Flavus (their Germanic names are unknown), take over the leadership of a Cheruscan auxiliary army in the service of the Roman Empire.
Asia
- The Parthian King Phraatakes and his mother Queen Musa disappear from the political scene. Nothing is known today about their fate. Orodes III becomes the new Parthian king .
- The king of the Korean empire Silla , Bak Hyeokgeose , dies. Namhae Chachaung becomes the new ruler.
