The year of the Wood Rat ( Jiazi , Chinese  甲子 , Pinyin jiǎzǐ ) is the 1st year in the 60-year cycle (天 支) of the Chinese calendar . In Chinese astrology, this is such a lunar year that is characterized by a connection between the first celestial stem ( 甲 , jiǎ , element wood and yáng ) with the first earth branch ( 子 , zǐ ), symbolized by the rat ( 鼠 , shǔ ).
