According to the Chinese calendar , such a connection occurs every 60 years. The last Fire Horse year began in 1966 and lasted from January 21, 1966 to February 8, 1967 due to the deviation of the Chinese from the Gregorian calendar year .

According to a traditional notion that is still widespread today, women who are born in a fire horse year bring harm to their own family and that of their husbands and are therefore particularly difficult to marry off. Therefore, according to a study by Kanae Kaku occurred in 1966 in Japan to a significant increase in the abortion rate of women and the mortality rate of newborns that as an indication of possible cases of by these superstitions motivated infanticide should be assessed. In 1966, the number of newborns in Japan also fell by around 500,000. This corresponds to a decrease of around 25% compared to the level of previous years. In the following year 1967 the old level was reached again.
