The metal monkey ( Gengshen ( Chinese  庚申 , Pinyin gēngshēn )) is the 57th year of the Chinese calendar (see table 天 支 60-year cycle). It is a term from the field of Chinese astrology and describes those lunar years that are linked by a connection between the seventh heavenly stem ( , gēng , element metal and Yáng ) and the ninth earth branch ( , shēn ), symbolized by the monkey ( , hóu ), are characterized.
