- March 17th : Commodus becomes Roman emperor after his father Marcus Aurelius dies in a military camp in Vindobona . Against the advice of the military, he concludes a peace treaty with the Germanic tribes and returns to Rome, where he celebrates a triumph on October 22 of the same year. This ends the second marcomannary war .
- The Porta Nigra is built as the northern city gate of Augusta Treverorum .

- July 17th : The Scilitan martyrs die in Carthage . They will be executed for their Christian faith. The traditional report of the martyrs is the oldest Christian document in Latin .
