history

historical development

Foundation and time from private school to public school (1889–1934)

The school was founded in 1889 by the deacon Paul Haucke (1859–1934) and the Altenberg postal administrator Reichel as a preparatory institute for postal workers in Altenberg / Erzg. , which was then opened on January 2, 1890. At that time, the confirmation room of the diaconate was used as a classroom for the eight students. The director was Paul Haucke, his brother Georg Haucke took over the position of the only teacher at the time.

In 1891 the school was expanded to become a post and railway school after the general director of the Saxon State Railroad Ewald Alexander Hoffmann inspired Paul Haucke to do so. This was followed by a redesign of the curriculum by Paul Haucke, the subjects of telegraphy and railway studies were integrated into the lessons.

On March 1, 1892, the school was renamed the pre-school for railway and other office officials , as from then on it was subordinated to the Dippoldiswalde district school inspection. From Easter 1895, the entire curriculum of the secondary schools was taught in a three-year course . The curriculum now contained the secondary school subjects religion, German language, literature, French, arithmetic, geography, physics, chemistry and history, as well as the subjects railway studies, telegraphy, shorthand / writing / drawing, English, gymnastics, constitutional studies, administrative studies and expedition studies.

In 1900 the municipal higher educational institution was attached to the railway school. The school was later renamed as a higher education institution for future traffic officials after the institution was placed under the Ministry of Education. At the time of this change of name there are conflicting sources. The first girl started school in 1920.

The institution was renamed several times. In 1922 the school was renamed the Deutsche Verkehrs-Realschule , and in 1931 it became the Deutsche Verkehrs-Oberrealschule .

Period of National Socialism (1934–1945)

On April 1, 1934, at the age of 75, Paul Haucke resigned from his position as school director, whereupon the sponsorship was taken over by the city of Altenberg, the Amtshauptmannschaft Dippoldiswalde , the association of friends and sponsors of this school and the Altenberger Landsmannschaft. The now private secondary school was called Höhere Grenzlandschule from then on . The National Socialist ideologies of this time also had an impact on school policy:

" The Higher Grenzlandschule [is] to be a gathering place for Germans abroad and for Reich German youth interested in the border region, who, here in Altenberg, not far from the Reich border, have a deep impression of the plight of the border region and of the tasks of a purposeful borderland Germans in view and teaching should receive. "

- newspaper of the Altenberger Landsmannschaft from 1936

In 1938 the school was expanded to become a border school, high school for boys (community association school) . The facility is now a full public institution with 225 students. Girls were no longer among the students in the educational institution.

Post-war and GDR times (1945–1989)

The school building also fell victim to the attack by Soviet troops on Altenberg after May 6, 1945 (see also: History of the City of Altenberg ) . The school was reopened on July 23, 1945 by committed people. In 1949 the school was named High School "Glückauf" Altenberg after the, with the founding of the Democratic German Republic (DDR) associated, socialism through crowded everyday life. In 1959 the name was changed to the Extended Oberschule (EOS) "Glückauf" , as happened that year with the law on the socialist development of the school system in the German Democratic Republic of all high schools in the GDR.

In 1977 it was decided to build a children's and youth sports school (KJS) in Altenberg and to relocate the EOS “Glückauf” to Dippoldiswalde. To this end, a new building was built in Dippoldiswalde as early as 1976. The KJS built in Altenberg was named “Dr. Richard Sorge ” .

There have been grammar schools in Saxony since 1992 , the term "grammar school" was not used during the GDR era. That is why the "Glückauf" high school in Dippoldiswalde was founded this year . The number of applicants increased from 80 applicants in 1990 to around 1500 applicants in 1992. Based on these figures, the Altenberg Bergstadtgymnasium was founded in 1992 in Altenberg , which after 1994 was called the "Glückauf" Bergstadtgymnasium . Due to the declining number of pupils, the two high school locations in Dippoldiswalde and Altenberg were combined into one school. Today the "Glückauf" high school in Dippoldiswalde / Altenberg is a high school with two locations.

Educational work

The "Glückauf" -Gymnasium Dippoldiswalde / Altenberg is a general education grammar school, which offers lessons for the secondary level I (grades 5 to 10) and the upper secondary level (grades 11 to 12). At the branch in Altenberg, the secondary level can be extended to three years (additional 13th school year), which always goes hand in hand with in-depth sports training.

Eight through tenth grade students can choose different profiles to focus on interests and strengths. You can choose between the scientific profile, the sporting profile and the linguistic profile (only in Dippoldiswalde). In Altenberg, future competitive athletes can choose from a more in-depth sporting profile, in which the skills in the respective sport are trained in a concentrated manner.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation awarded the Altenberg branch the title of Elite School of Sports . This award is given to schools that, in conjunction with schools and housing, are dedicated to promoting competitive sport. The city of Altenberg offers a sports boarding school, which accommodates around 50 competitive athletes and is close to the grammar school in Altenberg.

In Altenberg there are also training and competition facilities for competitive sports with the Altenberg racing sledge and bobsleigh track and the Sparkassen Arena Osterzgebirge (biathlon arena ). A training center ( state performance center ) with a shooting range, running hall, bobsleigh run and other training facilities enable efficient training for competitive athletes.

The winter sports bobsleigh , luge , skeleton , biathlon , cross-country skiing and curling as well as mountain biking are funded .

Working groups

There are a large number of different working groups at the locations that can be visited voluntarily. A specialty is, for example, the gospel choir, which consists of students and performs regionally. The school newspaper Zeppelin has probably existed since the 1990s and is still produced today by students from the Altenberg branch.
