life and career

Chao is the son of actor and TV presenter Allen Chao . He graduated from the University of Victoria in Canada, where he graduated in sociology and economics .

Mark Chao made his debut as a cop in the 2009 television series  Black & White . This role earned him the  Best Actor Award at the  Golden Bell Awards  . The following year Chao appeared in the gangster film  Monga , which became one of the most successful Taiwanese film productions. For this, Chao received the award for best newcomer at the  Asian Film Awards .

With the following films, Chao also became better known in the People's Republic of China. Love (2012), the next film by  Monga director Doze Niu , was the most successful Taiwanese film to date on the mainland. In addition to this Chao also played in  First Time at the side of  Angelababy and 2012 in a Black - & - White - prequel . He also appeared in  Caught in the Web of  Chen Kaige  to see a successful with audiences and critics production. He was again named best actor for this, at the Huabiao Awards in the category for Hong Kong and Taiwan.

This was followed by a role in  Zhao Wei's directorial debut  So Young (2013). That same year, he took on the role of  Di Renjie in  Detective Dee and the Curse of the Sea Monster , the prequel to the first 2011 film by  Tsui Hark, from Andy Lau . Also in  Black & White: The Dawn of Justice  2014 Chao was seen again in his well-known role. At the 16th  Huading Awards he was honored once more as best actor.
