(10663) Black Forest is an asteroid of the outer main belt , which was discovered on September 29, 1973 by the Dutch astronomer couple Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld . The discovery was made during the 2nd Trojan survey, during which Tom Gehrels surveyed field plates recorded with the 120 cm Oschin Schmidt telescope of the Palomar observatory at the University of Leiden , 13 years after the start of the Palomar-Leiden- Surveys .

The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .

The mean diameter of (10663) Black Forest was calculated to be 8.894 (± 0.080) km , the albedo as 0.089 (± 0.012).

The asteroid was named on May 1, 2003 after the low mountain range Black Forest .
